Deep in the Amazon, researchers have uncovered a complex of ancient cities — using laser technology

This LIDAR image provided by researchers in January 2024 shows complexes of rectangular platforms arranged around low squares and distributed along wide dug streets at the Kunguints site, Upano Valley in Ecuador.

Researchers have found the ruins of huge, ancient cities in the Ecuadorian depths of the Amazon, using airborne laser sensors to see what’s hidden in the dense vegetation.
